DID YOU KNOW:  Isla Cozumel’s only town is San Miguel de Cozumel, and it is where you’ll find many restaurants, bars, hotels, tour agencies, banks and other amenities. Plaza Del Sol, the town’s main square, is a popular spot for site seeing, shopping, hanging out and people-watching, especially on Sunday evenings when all of the locals seem to be out, soaking up the atmosphere. The waterfront Avenida Rafael Melgar is generally busy with cruise-ship tourists; wander off the track a little for a dose of the vibrant local scene.

With a 2005 census population of 71,401 persons, it is also Quintana Roo’s fourth-largest community, after Cancun, Chetumal and Playa Del Carmen.  It is a hub for tourism on the Riviera Maya, providing the sole ferries between the Mexican mainland and the island. In addition to the ferry service to Playa del Carmen, the first international cruise terminal in Quintana Roo is located in the city.

Some of our most popular Cozumel resorts are the Iberostar Cozumel, Occidental Grand Cozumel and the El Cozumeleno Beach Resort.

Cabo Whale WatchingI’m a huge whale watching fan, so I was delighted when I stayed at the Dreams Los Cabos all inclusive resort in Los Cabos, Mexico in February a few years ago during whale watching season. It was such a treat to sit on my ocean front balcony or swim in the infinity pool and watch the whales frolicking so close off the shore line.

To get an even closer look, we went downtown to Cabo San Lucas and got on a whale watching cruise. It was fantastic! We saw many whales and the crew showed us a great time as we passed the famous Land’s End arches and saw sea lions on the rocks sunning themselves. The coast line was gorgeous, it was a great vacation all around.

One of my all-time favorite destinations is the Atlantis hotel on Paradise Island, Bahamas. There is truly nowhere else in the world like it. The hotel itself is a stunning masterpiece, but it’s all the fun that awaits you that sets this destination apart.

During the day you can float away in the pool or wrestle the currents in the not-so-lazy river. The waterslides are a real thrill and you can go on them again and again without the long lines of theme parks. It a blast even for us “grown-up” kids. If you want to have an experience of a lifetime, go swim with the dolphins in the resort’s very own Dolphin Cay.
After a long morning of adventure, I usually spend the afternoon with a fruity concoction on the beautiful white, sandy Bahamas beaches and watch the clouds roll by. After all, if I sneak in a nap now, I’ll have all the more energy for the evening at the enormous casino, or maybe even go dance at Aura Night Club. On another night a lovely dinner at NoBu or Bobby Flay’s Mesa Grill will satisfy any palate before going for some laughs at the Jokers Wild Comedy Club. The possibilities are endless at Atlantis!
