My first trip to the Secrets The Vine in Cancun, Mexico was right after it had opened. This is a new adult only all inclusive hotel in the heart of Cancun’s hotel zone. It is Secrets first hotel in Cancun and they have set the standard. I have been to most of the top rated adult only hotels and to many of the Secrets and this was my favorite. Keep in mind this hotel had only been open for two weeks so I was not expecting everything to be perfect, but it was!

The minute you walk in to this hotel you realize you are in for a treat. The Lobby features Cancun’s first fireplace. They actually call it the living room not the Lobby. It is a gorgeous modern looking hotel with an enormous glassed in wine cellar. Check in was a breeze. We stayed in the Preferred club rooms so our butler came down to greet us, collect our bags and bring us to our room. The rooms at the Vine are the best ! They are very modern and HUGE. When you open the door the lights turn on and the lighting is all programmed for relax mode or reading etc. all controlled digitally with panels in each part of the room. The first thing you notice is the huge glass shower with dual shower heads. The room has enough closet space to stay for a month. The sliding glass doors are huge and they lead to an enormous furnished balcony with the best views in Cancun. You actually have an ocean view from the bed ! The linens are super nice and the bed was so comfortable. The best part of the room is NO marble floors! Most hotels have marble floors so you often need a pair of ice skates to get around your room. These floors are some sort of wood/pergo flooring. They are beautiful and SAFE. I know people say they do not care about the room but when you are doing an adult only hotel the quality of the room should be at the top of the list and the Secrets The Vine rooms are incredible.

Time to Eat ! Secrets has the best dining plan in the industry. All ala carte dining with NO reservations required. You are not on any agenda and you do not have to deal with certain seating times for dinner or some silly coupon that shows you have a reservation. The food is superior to ANY all inclusive hotel chain in the world! We ate at the Grill, the Peruvian restaurant and the Caribbean restaurant. It’s all gourmet and they start each meal with a nice refreshing pallet cleanser. The food is wonderful and the service is even better. Every restaurant also has an outside dining option. I have never seen this at any hotel. Indoor and outdoor seating at every restaurant. The Caribbean restaurant is only outside dining but it is a roof top restaurant with stunning sunset views. The hotel also has 24 hour room service and when they deliver they bring in a table complete with a white table cloth for you to eat on. It is like having your own little dining room and when your done they come get the table and you have your huge room back. During the day at the pool area the Chefs come out all at once with plates of appetizers and bring them to all the guests. We were in the pool and all of a sudden about 15 chefs come running out to the pool area with piles of tasty treats. I also thought it was very neat how accessible the Chefs were. At many of the restaurants the Chef actually delivers your entree and they come out to check on you at the end of your meal. If you are into Wine then the Vine is your hotel. They have wine tasting in the lobby area everyday and they offer the most impressive wine list I have ever seen. They also have a sommelier on site that runs the wine tasting and at dinner will help you with your wine pairing. I thought the house wines were excellent but they have any type of wine or champagne you would need. They do not try to sell you the more expensive wines and you are always welcome to sample before you purchase a bottle.

The beach is a huge with white fluffy sand and beach waiter service. The hotel has 3 pools in the main area and the private preferred club pool. The new Secrets does not have a swim up bar. This was a nice change compared to nearly all other hotels. No need for a swim up with the waiter service at the pool. It also made the pool area more enjoyable and clean ! The service around the pools and the common areas was magnificent. The Secrets is a high rise hotel so it is so easy to get around. From the Lobby you have five bars within a 2 minute walk. The elevators are fast and we never waited for more then a minute or two.

My return trip was even better! I always say the second trip to a hotel is always your best. The food, the views, the rooms and the amazing service, we had to go back! The rooms are my favorite. They are very modern with a laminate flooring, NO TILE! The mini bar was stocked every day and the maids showed up early so you had access to your room in the afternoon. The hotel is so easy to manage. No walking, everything is an elevator ride away. The lobby area is just perfect and it has a real “at home” feel. The lobby coffee shop is a real hit and always has fresh doughnuts in the morning and cold cuts in the afternoon and evening. The Ala’Carte restaurants were spot on and the room service was much improved! My favorite restaurant was the Italian. Ask for Jimmy he was the best.

The Entertainment team is the best in the business and every one of them remembered us from our previous stay! They host a night on the town at different clubs each night so you will see more of Cancun with preferred seating and special rates. This hotel really has it all and the service is incredible. I will return to The Vine next year and probably for many years to come. Experience adult all inclusive travel at it’s finest. Call us and book Secrets The Vine.

Unfortunately mother nature isn’t checking your calendars or maps, but according to the Atlantic Oceanographic and Meteorological Laboratory hurricane season was officially over November 30th!! Do you know what this means? It means lets leave those heavy clothes at home and let’s get somewhere we can wear the bare minimum and feel great!! Vitamin D is the winter’s best remedy.

With the threats of hurricanes and tropical storms in the past, now is a great time to pack your bags and head to paradise. December travelers heading to the Caribbean or Mexico can look forward to daily temperatures ranging from lows of mid 70’s to highs of mid 80’s. You mostly have sand, sea, and sunshine.

The Caribbean’s high season heats up right before Christmas and lasts through April, so be prepared to make your travel plans well in advance to get the best rates. Looking for that awesome holiday vacation that everyone will remember? The Dreams Cancun Resort & Spa or the Ocean Blue in Punta Cana would be a top choice for adults and children. After Christmas is ideal if you want to go at a quiet time, because children are in school and a more romantic atmosphere prevails. The Iberostar Grand Hotel Bavaro, adults only, can give you the extra TLC you need after those long hours in the office. For those adults who just want to have fun just like the kids, try the Secrets St. James or Secrets Wild Orchid in Jamaica.

A common question I receive is, “Where exactly is…?”.

Here is a brief breakdown of the Caribbean hot spots in Mexico:

I. Cancun – Cancun is a city along the coast of the Yucatan Peninsula with a population of about 500,000.

  • The hotel zone of Cancun is a small peninsula itself, which boasts more than 70 hotels, ranging from budget, to high end luxury. Most tourists, who visit Cancun, will stay within this zone when they go “downtown” to night clubs, restaurants, shopping, etc. Resort suggestion: Le Blanc Spa for couples, or Dreams Cancun for families.
  • Actual downtown Cancun is further inland and is a popular destination for cruises. It does not have the glitz and glamour of the hotel zone.

II. Riviera Maya – Riviera Maya refers to the entire area South of Cancun on the Yucatan. Those who stay in a resort in the Riviera Maya will still fly into Cancun and then drive anywhere from 30 minutes to 2 hours to arrive at their destination. There are dozens of wonderful resorts, which boast a more “tropical” vibe than those in Cancun. There are several cities within the Riviera Maya. Here are a few of them:

  • Playa del Carmen- Lovely town about 45 minutes from Cancun. This town has a population of about 150,000. It is playground to visitors from all over the world who enjoy a little nightlife and shopping, but want to stay away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Resort suggestion: Royal Hideaway for couples or Iberostar Tucan for families.
  • Tulum/Akumal- These towns are near each other in the southern part of the Riviera Maya. They are about 1.5 to 2 hours from Cancun and are the home to many beautiful ruins and beaches. Resort Suggestion: Dreams Tulum for couples or families.
  • Puerto Morales- is a small town between Cancun and Playa del Carmen. There are a couple of really neat resorts within this area. It is about 30 minutes from Cancun and about equal distance to Playa del Carmen.

III. Cozumel – This is an island off the coast of Playa del Carmen. You would take a ferry to fly into this destination. It is very popular to divers because of the location on the Palancar Reef. It is the world’s 2nd largest coral reef. Resort suggestion: Aura by Wyndham for couples or the Iberostar Cozumel for families.

I hope this helps, but don’t hesitate to call us for more info!
