Many of us who love Playa del Carmen, Mexico have been so disappointed to see their pristine beaches erode over the last several years. The resort owners have been doing everything they can to hold up what they had, but nature prevailed almost completely taking the beaches in some areas.
To our complete surprise, the Mexican government decided to take control of the situation. In the end of January, 2010 they shut down all Playacar beaches for a complete renovation. During the three days that followed a crew of hundreds of workers completed the Beach Recovery Project. Now the beaches are beautiful, bountiful, and ready for beach bums.
I went down over the weekend of March 20th to check them out and there is more soft, beautiful white sand than ever before. Enjoy!
