Last month, the exclusive Hotel Finisterra reopened as the all-inclusive Sandos Finisterra Los Cabos. Bordered by a unique combination of desert-mountain landscape, an urban skyline and the cool coastal waters of the Pacific Ocean, the property is a hub for outdoor adventure, nightlife and urban experiences. Located on a cliff just steps from downtown shopping and nightlife, no other Cabo all-inclusive resort offers such convenient location and breathtaking views.

The top floor boasts Baja’s first whale-watching bar, with premier whale viewing and whale-inspired cocktails using trendy ingredients. Or gaze across the San Lucas Bay as you enjoy the new cliff-top International Buffet, Don Diego. A la carte restaurants include Gourmet Cuisine at Blue Marlin, Mexican Cuisine at La Palapa, and Casual Dining at Tortuga Beach. Cupcake Cafe is a Coffee Shop offering a variety of coffees and pastries.

Kids can enjoy the included Kid’s Club from 10:00 am to 10:00 pm and there’s even a Baby’s Club for 2-3 year olds from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm and 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm. For the grown-ups, there are 4 swimming pools, including an adults-only pool with a swim-up bar. The golden-sand beach offers a private adults-only area with a wait staff, too. There is also a modern fully equipped Life Fitness gym with spinning and yoga classes and two full-sized tennis courts. If relaxing is more your style, you will appreciate the brand new spa featuring 6 luxurious treatment cabins, diverse temperature pools, hydrotherapy tubs and showers, a sauna, a solarium, and steam baths.  Experience the signature Nausicaa chromotheraphy treatment, or the new Thalasso treatment inspired by French spa practices that take advantage of the naturally beneficial properties of seawater.

Sandos has given the Jewel of Cabo a makeover and made it a wonderful value by converting it into an all-inclusive experience. Whether you are seeking romantic sunsets with that special someone as whales breach beneath you or a family getaway, the Sandos Finisterra Los Cabos is sure to please.

The new Riu Palace Peninsula in Cancun, Mexico is now offering even more Luxury with the addition of the adult only Villa section!  This new property has been getting wonderful reviews and this addition will make the resort even better.  The hotel is family friendly but the Villa section is just for adults.
The Villas will offer a private pool with exclusive waiter service .  Each room will have a jacuzzi with bathrobes and slippers.  The VIP treatment starts with a private check in, a welcome cocktail and a cool towel.  The rooms will offer personalized concierge service and a few other hotel and spa promotions.
The Riu is beautiful and it towers over the other hotels in Cancun.  The hotel has a wonderful location with a good beach and great views of Isla Mujeres.  I love the new pool layout and the swim up bar.  The hotel also has a new look to their outdoor theatre and the evening entertainment is a must see.

I have been to many adult only all inclusive hotels in Mexico and the Caribbean.  I think the food is very good at all of them so I thought I would highlight a few of my favorite ala carte restaurants at some of the finest adult only hotels in the world.

First on my list is, Mia Casa located at the El Dorado Seaside Suites in the Riviera Maya of Mexico. The El Dorado Seaside was voted by Forbes as one of the most romantic hotels in the world and this is their most romantic restaurant. Mia Casa offers traditional Italian cuisine and has a huge wine list.  The ambiance and the service level puts Mia Casa at the very top of my list.

A strong second on my list is Asiana located at the Royal in Playa Del Carmen.  Asiana offers contemporary gourmet Asian fusion cuisine. The decor is very stylish and it is very romantic. The food is wonderful and the service is even better. The Chef’s Plate comes in a close second at this same hotel.  Nothing better then a good dinner at the hotel and drinks on 5th Avenue in Playa Del Carmen.

In a real strong third is the Lobster House at the Excellence Playa Mujeres in Playa Mujeres/Cancun,   Mexico. It is an open-air thatch-roof palapa restaurant that bridges the main pool. It is open for breakfast and lunch but for dinner it is a whole new experience. The glow of soft lanterns and the reflection of the pool turn the restaurant into a wonderful atmosphere for all things lobster.

Last on my list is the lunch buffet at the Iberostar Grand Paraiso in the Riviera Maya of Mexico. I had to put it last since it is a buffet, but I have my reasons for putting it on my list. They have a grill specialty every day. It might be lobster, steaks or chicken but it is served hot off the grill ! You can order ala carte and be served or make your way through the buffet line. If you do not see what you need simply ask the waiter and it can be prepared for you. The waiters in the buffet are so attentive to your every need. It is located right next to the pool and also offers outside seating. The Iberostar Grand is #1 in the world do their ala carte restaurants are just superb. The Surf and Turk at the Grand is legendary but you will eat more meals at the buffet and you will not be disappointed.

I could of added another 20 or more to this list.  As I mentioned earlier all these hotels feature amazing dining options.  This was just a short list of a few of my favorites at some of the top hotels in Cancun/Riviera Maya.

Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic is known for it’s world class golf.  It boasts 28 golf courses designed by all the top course designers. This destination has options for every level and every budget.  Many of the hotels will offer golf deals and at certain times of the year you can get free green fees.  Many hotels offer golf courses but Punta Cana only has 3 oceanfront golf courses.

Punta Espada golf course is a jack Nicklaus designed course in Cap Cana and is the only course in Punta Cana with a PGA senior tour stop. The Corales course is also ocean front and is designed by Tom Fazzio.  This course is famous for it’s last 3 holes “Devils Elbow” and is located at the Punta Cana resort.  La Cana golf club is in Tortuga and is a PB Dye course with 27 challenging holes.  These are the three top courses in the area that are open to the public and not directly affiliated with a hotel.  This location has many more golf courses on or adjacent to the hotels.

Adjacent to the Iberostar Grand Hotel Bavaro, the newly opened Iberostar Bavaro Golf Club course was also designed by P.B. Dye and presents a different type of inland challenge including its’ 105 sand traps to tempt you at every hole. Other courses to check out in the area is the the Faldo Legacy Course, which was rated the best new course of 2008 by Travel + Leisure magazine; the Cocotal Golf & Country club’s 27 hole course with reasonable rates on 9, 18, or 27 holes of championship caliber golf adjacent to the Paradisus Palma Real.  Whatever your skill level Punta Cana is sure to have a golf course that will meet and exceed your expectations!

Many people think that the sunsets are what to look for in the Riviera Maya but on the contrary, the sunrise is what you should get up early for.  I was recently on a 4 night vacation in the Riviera Maya with my wife and we had the pleasure of waking up early to see some beautiful sunrises.

Since the coast of the Riviera Maya is in the Gulf of Mexico facing East, the sunrises are much better than the sunsets.  In this video you will see the sunrise from my ocean front balcony, strarting at around 6:30 am and lasting until about 7 am.  The clouds in the distance make the sun look as if there is a person playing the guitar inside of it.  Or, use your imagination and comment on what this looks like to you!
