On October 12th – October 15th Apple Vacations hosted their annual Crystal Agency Retreat in the Riviera Maya Mexico at the Secrets Silversands Resort. I personally had the pleasure of traveling on this vacation with my wife and let me tell you, we had a great time! First of all, the Crystal Agency Retreat is a once a year special occasion trip that Apple Vacations provides to their nationwide top travel agencies. As Apple Vacations number one booking agency in the entire US, Dream Vacations is what Apple calls their “National Crystal Agency.”

On the day of arrival, we were able to have a private check-in at Preferred Club lobby and shortly after that we were taken to our Preferred Club Junior Suite with an Ocean View. The rooms at the Secrets Silversands are amazing, very large, soft beds, mini bar, jacuzzi, double sinks, walk in shower, big balconies, very nice rooms. On our first night of the trip we had a quick meet and greet with a cocktail hour to meet a few of the other agency owners. We then went to dinner with some of Apple Vacations high level officials to discuss a little business as well as enjoy and fantastic meal at the Portofino Italian Restaurant.

The weather during our trip was rather rainy so some of the excursions that Apple Vacations had planned for us were cancelled or postponed so my wife and enjoyed our lazy day in the property. We ordered room service, took a nice nap on the balcony of our room with the sound of the waves crashes to the beach. Very relaxing day. Our second nights dinner was hosted at the Secrets Capri resort just a few miles down the road from the Secrets Silversands. The night started with another meet and greet period followed by an amazing fire show along with all the lobster tail and rack of lamb one could imagine. We had dinner with the GM of a few resorts in the area such as the Secrets Capri GM (Christopher) as well as other Apple Vacations officials. This night was a great time, very laid back and enjoyable.

Our third and final day was another lazy day for my wife and I with all of the rain and wind going on. We decided to go down to the spa for relaxing couples massage at the Secrets Silversands incredible spa! Our farewell dinner was planned for 8 pm that night which was another amazing dinner and show. Before dinner started, we were entertained with a little vegas style show and during dinner there was an amazing violin player walking around the room playing beautiful melodies while we ate. I had the privlege of sitting with Gino (GM of Secrets Maroma) as well as the Co-President and CEO of Apple Vacations. The night ending with dancing and drinks in the lobby bar as well as a nice Cuban cigar. After meeting all of the hotel representatives as well as the Apple Vacations representatives, our trip was a great success.

I just returned form the Silversands in the Riviera Maya on October 16th 2011 and like I said above the food was fantastic! We had dinner at the Portofino restaurant our first night. Two of my three days we ordered  room service for breakfast, at least once for lunch and a late night stack more times than my diet would call for Also during our stay while we were at the pool you could order room service for lunch and simply have your meal brought right to you by the pool side. Their chips and pico are delicious!

As I mentioned above the beach isn’t great BUT, at this very moment while you are reading this review the hotel staff is continually working very hard to make the beach better. From the time we checked in to the time we checked out, one area of beach was cleared of all rocks and in fact, they have a sand blowing machine that they are using to bring sand in from further out at sea to build their beach up. All in all after my 3 day stay, the beach was better when I left than when we got there so like I said, the resort staff is working to make the beach even better.

The rooms, pools and nightlife in property are my favorite aspects of this property. Your room will always be a junior suite, some with ocean view and some rooms are considered swim up (meaning ground floor direct access to the pool). All rooms have jacuzzis, sitting area and balcony or patio. There are at least 4 pools in property, one infinity pool as well as a swim up bar. The nightlife in the lobby areas are very cozy and inviting including two beach bars.

This property is perfect for honeymooners, wedding parties and couples looking for a modern style resort with plenty of activities and again great service! Othere Secrets resorts in this area are the Secrets Capri and Secrets Maroma.

Iberostar Hotels & Resorts acquired the Hilton Cancun for an undisclosed amount and will rename it the Iberostar Cancun. Iberostar said when combining the purchase price and the cost of renovations, the hotel is a $100 million investment. The hotel will be Iberostar’s ninth property in Mexico (five at Playa Paraiso in the Riviera Maya; two near Playa del Carmen, also in Riviera Maya; and one in Cozumel).

Hilton will continue operating the 426-room hotel until it closes for renovations in August. It will reopen as an all-inclusive Iberostar resort on Dec. 1. “Mexico is our priority market, and this acquisition complements our brand’s offerings there,” said Miguel Fluxa, president of the Iberostar Group.

Renovations include refurbishing the main lobbies and lobby bar, building new pool terraces and adding a buffet restaurant and four specialty restaurants. Future plans call for the construction of a stage/amphitheater, a water park and a club for teens
